About Susannah

Myofascial Bodywork, Yoga Tune Up, BeActivated,

With a lifelong interest in what makes people “tick”, and a background in bodywork, yoga, and personal development, I wanted to develop something different that blended inward with outward practices, to improve well-being, flexibility and movement.

I changed careers in my late 20’s, after living in Switzerland and Australia when I came back to the UK and trained as a Sports Massage Therapist. My 30-year journey of learning my Bodywork craft began. Initially I enjoyed working with local sports clubs & some Team GB Quadrathletes and Canoeists but felt limited by only providing sports massage. My desire to learn other techniques and methods, made me find something more encompassing to look at people, as more than the sum of their particular sport or list of aches and pains. I know, holistic is a rather overused word, but I love to treat people as human beings, not human doings.

They say, when the student is ready, they find their teacher. I met Andy Thomas, who had been an engineer at Rolls Royce, then an Osteopath and a remedial yoga teacher. He had developed his own methodology, “Full Movement Method“ and introduced me to FASCIA,  in the early 90’s. He became a steadfast mentor and friend.

This method combines elements of Rolfing physical therapy and mobilizations, to release restrictions in the body’s myofascial body wide soft tissues with applied YOGA postures and pranayama breath-work, to increase movement and relieve pain.

I realized I had finally found a truly holistic approach to the management and treatment of pain – be it physical, emotional or spiritual in nature. I also trained with him to become a remedial Hatha Yoga teacher.

As well I studied together with some amazing teachers and clinicians in the fields of  Pain Science, Movement, Bodywork &  Fascia, and meditation. Douglas Heel Ruthy Alon, Robert Schleip, Joanne Avison, John Sharkey, Ruth Duncan, Jill Miller, David Bulter, Dinneen Viggiano Charlotte Elliot,

All these influences and teaching have allowed me to process some earlier life trauma issues and events and I continue this journey with interest in Polyvagal theory and Dr Stepen Porges work with the Vagus nerve, Bessel Van de Kolk and his concepts of the Body keeps the score.

Realizing that I could help people by employing a broad ”toolkit” of different disciplines, I developed my Body-Mind-Unwind signature class – a modern take on yoga, incorporating fascia release using rollers, spiky balls and domes to encourage full movement and relieve pain.

Over the last few 7 years I’ve become an Integrated Yoga Tune up Teacher and Roll- Model Practitioner. Now, for self-care I generally prefer using TuneUp Fitness® therapy balls as my “ball ” tools of choice.

My hands-on therapy also evolved to embrace the range of disciplines I’d studied and practiced over the years. During Body-Mind-Unwind treatments, I look at the big picture and select the right blend of therapies for each client in a truly integrated approach to wellbeing.
